JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
The Controller directs financial activities, such as planning, procurement, and investments for all parts of Iron Rentals. They also manage all aspects of accounting for Wild River, Powder River, and the personal finances of Ken and Shelley Williams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties.
  2. Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of the company.
  3. Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  4. Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  5. Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  6. Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units, (Williams Plumbing & Heating, Inc., Williams Civil Construction, etc.) regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  7. Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  8. Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
  9. Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  10. Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
  11. Prepare, ensure soundness of, and provide to management consolidated financial statements.

Transactions

  1. Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.
  2. Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
  3. Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
  4. (Process payroll in a timely manner.)
  5. Maintain the chart of accounts.
  6. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
  7. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.

Compliance
Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for annual audits.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Education Required: College degree in accounting or related field.
  2. 5-8 years experience in financing, accounting, or related field.

Required Knowledge

  1. Economics and Accounting- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  2. Administration and Management- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  3. Mathematics- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
  4. English Language- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  5. Work with Human Resources- Make efforts to keep updated on principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
  6. Computers and Electronics- Advanced knowledge of Excel applications and Quickbooks, and ability and willingness to learn new software.
  7. Finance- An understanding of how to calculate time value of money and compare different financial options.

  7. Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  8. Mathematics- Using mathematics to solve problems.
  9. Active Learning- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  10. Coordination- Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.

May be subject to drug testing and credit check.

Physical Demands

  1. The Controller, while performing the essential functions of this job, is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear.
  2. The Controller will rarely lift, move or push up to 15 pounds.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Preferable to have a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle history record that meet company insurance requirements.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  1. The noise level in the work environment is that found in an average office, including phones ringing, employees talking, keyboards being used, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, salaried position and typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel
Travel is not expected for this job, unless otherwise designated by the general manager.
